For those of us who understand what Auto Union is, the question really is, where is this thread going? Why would VW become Auto Union, when Audi is already Auto Union? None of this makes any sense at all. VW has been very successful at crushing their reputation as an economy car manufacturer, at least in the US (with a noted exception in the TDI line of cars). Sure, they haven't been able to put themselves on par with Audi, who has been at least lately, producing very nice high-line vehicles. Why would a successful automaker like VW jump ship on a successful name? Unless they intend on merging VW and Audi more so than they are currently. Is that even possible? I guess we'll find out soon enough... -Steven Dodson Kneeland, CA "Inga" the 87 Syncro
Original message------------------------- Interestingly enough is that "Auto Union" was the corporate name for Audi before Volkswagen purchased/merged with them. For guys like me in the parts biz (who have been around too long), every time I see the Auto Union name I think of Audi, not Volkswagen. Auto Union really put out some crap/junk in their day. Talk about going backwards..... Jim Thompson |
