I'm in the process of stripping a 2.1 engine to the long-block so that I can put the cooling system from a 1.9 onto it. I notice that there is some type of sensor that is mounted into the block by the oil filter. See picture below. Is this an oil-temp sensor? The 1.9 does not have this sensor. http://oda.bz/vanagon/stand/van_engine/van_engine-Pages/Image0.html Also, thanks to everyone for the feedback on the engine stand. Since I was in a rush, i did a temporary fix to my $99 CIP1 stand. This stand is pretty unstable and was tipping over a lot. I put some wood on it and I've used it for a week with no problems. If anyone is interested, here's a couple of shots of the simple mod to the stand. I can turn the engine 360 degrees on the stand with no problems. I've also tightened and loosened M8 and M10 bolts with the engine mounted and there hasn't been any problems. http://oda.bz/vanagon/stand/van_engine/van_engine-Pages/Image2.html http://oda.bz/vanagon/stand/van_engine/van_engine-Pages/Image1.html If anyone is interested in doing this without a welder, here is what I did. I went to Home Depot and bought a 1 1/2" by 4" board on sale for $5.50. I also got 6 metal plates, pre-drilled, and 2 wheels that were 1 1/2 in diameter. Each bolt is going straight through two pieces of wood and three metal plates. The one rather interesting snag I ran into with my engine project is that the air-intake distributor (metal box in center) from the 1.9 can't fit onto the block bolts from the 2.1. This is puzzling, because I thought that the cases for the 1.9 and 2.1 were exactly the same? The air distributor from the 2.1 is slightly bigger than the 1.9 and this prevents a good fit with the throttle body from the 1.9. I've got it jammed on with silicone rubber now. I hope there's no leaks... |
