I've seen CVs with broken cages that still ran real good. Noisy right, but
still functioned good as long as they had plenty of grease.
It would take a cage breaking and binding the drive balls to ever do any
real Van Stopping damage to the CV.
I've see lots of CVs with gaulding on the drive surfaces and they still
worked good.
Granted preventive maintenance is important but having any more than I CV
spare for a very long trip would be a waste of money.
