Something I have seen repeatedly on various SoCal vehicles is the phenomenon of electrical gremlins showing up in anything more than a slight drizzle. Better-informed folks should perhaps chime in here, but I'm wondering if you got some errant moisture into your old, dried up wiring harness. If it turns out that it's not an actual mechanical issue, you might have some electrical system maintenance in your future.
