The snow was so deep on the whole iron Range that they didn't plow the snow onto the side of the roads. Especially in town. The plows pushed it into the center of the street and 10-12 ft, tall auger's mounted on the front of a truck blew it into semi dump trucks to haul it away onto the frozen lakes. No room to push it onto the side of the roads, or sidewalks. It was so cold in Jan, Feb. that it was smart for a guy to "Bank the House" with the snow in the yard, to aid in insulating the place. Tank heater's in the cooling system were the best. Plug the car/ truck/Van in as soon as you got home, and that 1500 watt heater you could hear thumping as it heated and circulated the water in the engine all night. Fail to do this was a good reason to stay home that day, or building a fire under the oil pan to get it to just barely turn it over in a couple of hours ( maybe ) And this was with straight 5 weight oil in the pan. Good educational process up on the Mesabe Range. The Land of Eternal Cold :)

Grew up in Hibbing. Remember from december on into feb and march the canyons between snow piles that were called roads and sidewalks. And delivering my papers on my paper route. Cant claim that imfamous walking distance to school as for high school I was only a block away but for junior college and tech school it was 1.5 miles through it. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• jimt
