Definitely, get a wi-fi card,  I would also recommend getting a small
'hi-gain' antenna The Proxim/Orinoco cards will accept an external antenna.
The small mag mount antennas go for about $15.00 on Ebay.

Also, checkout www.netstumbler.com.  This shareware software is great for
snooping out free wifi.  Without getting into an ethics debate (asbestos
suit being strapped on), it's amazing how many people have wifi at their
houses without changing the default (read - wide open) settings.  In a
pinch, you can get online quickly using a borrowed wifi connection.  (Drove
through the neighborhood yesterday, in a 1/2 mile radius must have counted 8
wifi access points, mine was the only one with access restricted.

If you don't know where there are, you can even get a keychain wifi scanne=

and drive alongside home/offices/hotels until you see a light=2E =20

About 50% of wi-fi networks are completely wide open=2E =20
That way you get free high speed internet instead of slow dial up=2E
