in -8 temps and left it to warm up, while getting ready I noticed a  spot
coming from the back.  It was motor oil and about 2 quarts was  pouring from
the engine area.  It turned out that the oil cooler  gasket had broken from
the cold/pressure.  It was an easy fix, and I'm  glad it happened before I
had traveled anywhere.  So the moral of the  story ~ be careful with your
vans at these temps, especially check that  gasket.


Quite common occurrence up here in the North  country.  Just had a customer
from NYC last week and he found out real  quick what -30 C does to a Vanagon
Syncro Westy from California landing  in Ottawa.  Blew the oil cooler seal and
the coolant  distributor.
