KDF was the name of volkswagen before there was volkswagen. it was a name Adolf Hitler picked, and it meant Kraft Dürch freude or "Strength thru Joy" very nazi propaganda-esque sounding.. KDF era beetles were made from the mid to late 30's.. the swastika surrounded by a cogwheel (the KDF car's original logo) was later followed by the \X/ surrounded by a cogwheel. not to be confused with KFC which means "Very greasy chicken", a name which Colonel Sanders picked.
