Subject: New Alternator/Battery...Voltage Question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"

I just put my newly rebuilt 120 amp alternator and new 875 CCA Energizer in my 1.6 83. I had the alternator rebuilt because the old one was performing poorly (less than 12 volts) and I am addinga bunch of electrical peripherals that will be drawing power. The battery also needed to be replaced.

So my question is, I just took her out for a test spin and the VDO volt meter is reading a bit less than 14v. The old one used to run around 12. Is this correct? Should I be worried that itąs too high or was the other one too low (my suspicion for the change).

Also, in installing the alternator I just put a screwdriver underneath and crowbarred it tight to tighten it. Checked the belt to see that I couldnąt turn it 90 degrees. Anything else to consider?

Dave

P.S. If anyone in LA needs a good alternator rebuild shop, I HIGHLY recommend Valley Alternator in Reseda.
