I don't recall exactly where he attached it, but I reckon one might be able to affix such a thing to the transmission mounting points on a wasserboxer.

Your dad most likely attached the angle iron to the flywheel using the bolt holes for the clutch cover. Should work for the WBX too. Have a friend stand on the engine block while you are removing the bolt.
