I bought half shafts from Napa about 2 years ago.
The other side's boots blew out.
This side just destrucked the cv ... great..

I wonder if you have 411/412 or Porsche 914 axle shafts?

I have a set of 412 auto trans shafts stashed somewhere. I hung on to
them when I junked the 412, I thought they would fit the Carat, the
joint diameter, bolt pattern and shaft length looked the same. 412 cv's
have a different part number than Type 2 cv's, but they look identical.
Maybe the spline count is different?

All I know is that busdepot shows one CV for 68-91.
And that it's for manual and automatic.
But the damn thing I have has fewer splines and won't take
the new CV.
Maybe I've got a shaft from a different VW?

Though I haven't replaced the CVs on the axles of my '84 automatic, I

The left and right axles are of different lengths (which seems to be
common
knowledge) but all 4 CV joints are identical.
