I once stopped by Madisonville, La. on a whirlwind cross-country tour. Find it on your map. right where Mulberry St. which is rt 22 crosses the river, on Water St. there is a place to eat. I believe it is River Cottage Food and Spirits. It is a nice looking old house type of place with a big porch in front. I had a very good po-boy there, but I am no expert in po-boys. I also drove through the campground at Fontainebleau State park nearby there and it looked like very nice setting. Watch out for gators though. I didn't check out the showers or facilities. I also drove down some tiny roads to the edge of Lake Ponchartrain. Its a bizarre landscape. Feels like you are under water there is so much water everywhere. I couldn't believe I was on solid ground, felt like I would just sink in and disappear.
