Yes, my speedometer works, alhamdulilleh. So as long as I remember to look at the gas gauge instead of the trip mileage to decide when to fill the gas tank, I can drive this way.

A number of people have said it would be this gear problem - some made it sound easy to fix, others said it might not be accessible.

Hmm, is anyone along my route handy with tools (handier than I am, I mean - which isn't hard!), maybe I could pull into your place en route and you could look over my shoulder while I attempt to fix it?

Route: Gulf coast from Austin TX to Pensacola - getting to Pensacola Jan 7. Then diagonalling north-east to Chapel Hill NC, Arlington VA, and the Delaware Gap by Jan 14.

After that, muddling around the mid-Atlantic Jan 17-Feb 3, then in NYC till March 15 (at my mom's, not in my van). And after that? Hopefully back on the road somewhere!

Joy
