I used 2 relays, one for high beam and one for low. Are you talking
about finding a source to trigger your relays or power the headlight
switch. I used the old headlight sockets with a male pig tail to power
the relays. This way I didn't need to cut any of the factory wires.

I'm in the midst of this project myself but having a hard time finding
12V switched power on my 84's fusebox area. The directions make it
sound
like there are 4 'open' spots available but I can't find any, I'm
thinking the directions are for later model vanagons with a different
wiring layout?
