Today I finished up with my lighting improvements I've been working on
over the last week. They included running new wire and relays for H4
headlights, Hella FF1000 driving lights and a single work lamp on the
rear bumper for backing up. There are lots of ways to go about running
power to the headlights but a few tips that most write ups don't bother
to go over. if your changing the headlights to Euro H4 or even
replacing a broken headlights chances are the plastic adjusters will
break wile removing the light. Save yourself trouble and buy new ones
ahead of time unless they were replaced recently, most of the venders
and dealers do not stock all of them needed so check ahead of time.

If your planing on using the VW optional fog lamp switch (also sold by
many of the common venders) with lighted dot when on(like rear
defroster switch), you will need to get the male w/ pig tails from the
dealer as most of venders did not cary them and on my car the plug was
different then others so I couldn't take from a parts van furthermore,
you can just use generic connectors.

I bought my H4 lights from Fast Forward (group buy: thanks David!!) but
  I would also recommend both of these lighting venders for wiring parts
or lights. Dan Stern sells a Hella Headlight relay kit that includes
most of what you need: H4 light plugs, relays, relay plugs and
connectors, and fuses plus great free instructions on his site.
Susquehanna Motor sports also sells the same Hella relays and parts
(not a kit) plus male 9004 plugs with pig tails (great to use for
trigger wires on relays so you do not need to cut your harness), All
kinds of driving lights and work lamps.

I'm very happy with the final results although I think a higher output
alternator is in my near future ;-). the final setup is Low/high
80/100w with 100w inner high beams and 100w FF1000 and added 55w rear
light.
