I would be a very wise move on your part to pressurize the cooling system prior to making a snap judgement call and pulling the heads.

Have someone do this for you that has manual hand pump type testing equipment, or purchase your own and locate the possible origin of the leak.

Could be a weeping hose, or loose clamp.

This is the easiest way to locate and pin point the leak.

I can't tell you how many time's I have thought the same as you are, only to find a cracked hose up above or in front of the heads.

I can't seem to find where the coolant is coming from. Any suggestions? I really would like to put off pulling the heads and such for a while. Currently I am not over heating and the oil usage is minimal as well as loss of coolant. Thanks, Michael Knight '77 Westy Deluxe, "el Verde" '85 Vanagon GL, nameless
