Subject:      AC advice, keep or remove?

The AC in my 87 syncro is falling apart. The rear piece has cracked at the
mounting points and is hanging down several inches. It hasn't worked since I
purchased the vehicle anyways. So should I pull the whole system out? Will
this lower the resale value? If so how much?

I have heard that this is subject to a recall, is a VW dealer required to
fix this for free? If not, where can I get the pieces to fix it?
