I recently replaced a CV boot and thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and repacked it. I used Ben McAfferty's directions (from Volkscafe.com) and they were excellent. Print them out and have them laying nearby. I worked as Maggie read along and kept me on track. Quite a messy job, but if you use surgical gloves it is not so bad.

After you pack the joint, wrap the entire end in aluminum foil until you get in position to reinstall it, and then just pull it away. The foil will keep the grease in place (and keep you a litttle cleaner). As it turns out, now I have another one to replace even though my recent inspection of the others showed no need. Now I will go in an replace the remainder. Replace one, replace them all, says I.

"Come, Bill, you know me; you know an old shipmate, Bill, surely,' said the stranger. The captain made sort of a gasp. 'Black Dog!' said he. 'And who else?' returned the other, getting more at his ease. 'Black Dog as ever was, come for to see his old shipmate Billy, at the Admiral Benbow inn. Ah, Bill, Bill, we have seen a sight of times, us two, since I lost them two talons,' holding up his mutilated hand."
