There's a fundamental engineering problem with your solution. How do you expect her to steer from all the way back there? A more elegant solution with be to cut-out the driver's side wheelwell. Install straps on each side (suspender style) which can be thrown over the shoulder will help support that side.

All kidding aside, least expensive real engine swap solution is still VW inline-4 IMHO.
