What does it cost to install a Subaru engine (with labor). It cost me $1400 plus my old engine to convert my 87 GL to inline-4 1.8 VW with 23,000 documented miles. That's parts and labor. They used Vanagon diesel components.

The KEP parts alone will run you around $560 plus shipping and tax as applicable. A good used engine may be around $600 plus ECU and other pieces. You still have to cobble together the exhaust and coolant lines.

I keep an open mind as to engine conversions. I was simply answering IMHO what is the least expensive route.
