I think most Honda motors are out as they spin backwards.

Some of the younger kids I know here in So Cal are real savvy with the small Japanese engines from Hondas and Toyotas. Apparently these engines are readily available at low price (like 200-400 USD). Has anyone tried putting these small Japanese engines into their Vanagons? They seem about right in terms of size and output. I know that Subaru engines are the engines of choice but they are not as easily found. The question I am really asking is: What is the absolute cheapest way to go when my stock 2.1 WBX with about 150K gives up soon?
