Subject: Rear Seat Belt Report
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I have a 7 passenger. I ordered the rear seat belts from Go-Westy.

They were easy to put on but:

They have a plastic housing that looks prone to damage, unlike the genuine VW which are mounted behind the luggage bay panels.

They seemed to lock up easy when the passenger is putting them on. The genuine VW I ended up getting don't lock up so easy.

I don't know what vehicle the Go-Westy seat belts were designed for, so I had some concern that they were even intended to be mounted in the position they are in the Vanagon. I assume they would work ok.....but I'm not a seat belt expert.

The mounting point below the side of the seat on the Go-Westy belt was intended to be used with a shouldered bolt which was not included. Also the van body has ribbing on that mounting point which the Go-Westy belt mounting point doesn't sit flush with.

I called Go-Westy and they took them back with no problem.

I ordered the genuine VW belts, bolts, belt guides, new buckles (only $14.99), from the dealer for not much more than the aftermarket kit.

I liked the idea that VW designed their belts for our vans, and they are less prone to damage mounted behind the luggage bay panels. But you Westy's with the rear middle seat position don't get a choice from VW.

Joe
