I heard that one too. When I worked for the State Educational
Television Services in High School, one of the common initiations for
newbies was to be sent to the parts store to ask for either a Johnson
Rod or a muffler bearing for some vehicle or another. Years later I
found out that a Johnson Rod is the part that connects the drivers on a
steam-driven locomotive. Still looking for that muffler bearing. And my
dad actually did send my friends back around his garage to find a VW
radiator hose... back in aircooled days.
