Jean-Woo I did my research on this one looking at a Boston Bob rebuild, Tiico, Subaru, and DIY approach. My goal was to keep things as stock as possible, have it serviceable anywhere (the van's a traveller), increase performance, reliability and mileage. I ended up doing a VW inline 4. Although I'm very happy with the results, how how I got there was neither cheap, nor fun. My story, including a tip or two on dealing with list vendors (or anyone selling used parts) is here: http://my.tbaytel.net/guskers/
Alistar Bell's site is an excellent source of info/links on the I4 approach: http://www.members.shaw.ca/albell/
If you're looking for Subie and Tiico stuff try the yahoo groups: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/subaruvanagon/ http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/tiico/ http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Vanagon-EngConv/
If you're considering a rebuilt WBX, I'd seriously look at Boston Bob. Although I didn't go this route, I did speak with him and have read many of his posts. He knows what he's talking about. http://www.bostonengine.com/ Hope this helps. Dennis. |
