I think I may do a combination of suggested things:

-glue plastic ring to the dash -attempt the find a tighter receptacle for the hole or somehow modify the existing receptacle to be tighter -run a larger gauge wire over from the fuse box or batt.

I am curious though about Jerry's plug:

Anyone else have a non-standard lighter socket? Are the later models just different?
