Subject: Garmin ique 3600 & Palm device
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

I was interested in Ken's post about this device a while back and have been thinking about getting one more and more seriously. I have used MS streets and trips 2005 GPS on a laptop in the van. but I really need a new (faster) laptop to get it to work well, and without voice command, it is not really safe to use while driving. So my thinking was to put the money I would spend on a newer laptop toward this type of device. I would be able to use it for other tings where I wouldn't want to lug a laptop anyway.

So here's my question, what else can I do with this Palm OS device? I would like to be able to access the internet while on the road at wireless places. Could I get a wireless device for the Palm to do that? Realizing I will have to deal with the small screen for anything I want to do... can I easily interface with USB devices like flash drives, CF card reader from my digital camera, etc?

Other options I am considering are to get a pocket PC based device, which I could use with Pocket Streets and Trips. But I would still have no voice command. At least I could put it on the dash and safely refer to it while driving... I see Garmin is coming out next month with the ique M5, which appears to be the successor to the 1que 3600, and runs on Pocket PC OS. This will probably be at a premium price when it first comes out and will push down the price of the 3600 even more...

Ken, if you're reading this are you still happy with this device? Anybody else using one and have an opinion? Can I get detailed topo maps to go on it and use it while hiking?

Thanks for any opinions! Edward
