Keep in mind that the length of the hatch strut support PVC tubing will be different depending on old or newer hatch struts. Earlier struts attach with the body down and the PVC support tube is only used when you need it. With later struts, the body is up and the support automatically drops into place anytime the hatch is opened. And for the former the tube is cut shorter. I know because I created a set for my '90 that worked great but when I had to replace the struts I also had to trim the PVC tubing. BTW, the strut combination that GoWesty recommends works very well. Now let's see how long they last...
