Subject: Injector cleaning results
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I have been having a hard time with a lean mixture just off idle (really bad at times), and general driveability weirdness. A local list member, Tabe, was very nice and helpful with offering to troubleshoot. This turned out most enlightening, showing that a couple injectors had sketchy spray patterns, and the flow rates were no where near matching up. I sent off 8 to get checked, the best 4 of which to be cleaned. Although it took a while to get them back, i'm pleasantly surprised with the numbers (havn't installed them yet... box just came). The report shows that dirty injector flow rates varied anywhere from 79mL to 84mL, with spray patterns anywhere from "fair" to "bad". Well, he ended up cleaning all 8 of them, which turned out 8 injectors all flowing 95mL, with "good" spray patterns. This means the injectors improved flow rates anywhere from 13% to 20%!

This weekend, we'll see how this translates into driveability and fixing. Anyway, just something to think about if your injectors havn't been serviced in a long while...

A little electrical question about injectors, though. What kind of variance in resistance and voltage drop is acceptable? All of the injectors are 16.7ohms except one at 16.8, and the average voltage drop is reported at 8.23 with a couple 8.22 and one 8.24. This doesn't seem like it should matter, but would it have any practical effect?
