On both my driver vanagon and the spare parts van it was the same thing.
Blown fuses all the time when trying to use them.  I finally obtained one of
the surface mount ones at a FLAPS and mounted it on the heater deflector in
front of the gear shift.  The other alternative is to get an adaptor for the
"silver plug" outlet.
