I used JB to fix a leak in my heater core (in my Chevy) about 11 years ago.
Worked great, still no problems. I remember telling a guy about it right
after I did it and he looked at me kind of funny and said 'And what part of
Oklahoma you from?'
I said 'Actually, I grew up in East Tennessee.' He says 'Well there ya go.'
One of the points my machine shop guys made when we were discussing this as
a possible 'fix' to the pitted head surface (the case surface was fine) was
that the head gasket surfaces were not under any great amount of pressure,
as they're not part of the cylinder as most conventional head gaskets are.
They actually felt like that was the most important point to consider, as I
recall.
I can agree with Boston Bob's gist that this is more of a 'quick fix' than a
proper 'repair'. However the anecdotal evidence seems to be that if you do
the fix right and then properly maintain the coolant system (assuming no
other catastrophes), it'll probably get you to your regularly scheduled
future rebuild/replacement/upgrade/conversion- which is all I wanted it to
do.
As for a $1000 bucks worth of Boston Bob/AVP heads, yeah I'd love some. All
it takes is money, right? : ) (Did I say that before?)
Cya,
Robert

I have never had a problem with jb weld until my latest tube that I got for
a project. 4 days later it still hadnt hardened up correctly. Even after
an almost double amount of hardner. Threw those tubes out and went to
another store to get another pack. That pack worked correctly.
I have even plugged holes in EGR filters and tubes on air cooled vanagons
with the stuff. Works great. My egr filter was almost completely jb weld
after two years as I plugged more holes in it.
