I sent the following by pmail to the person who asked first. Go to www.bikenashbar.com and / or www.performancebike.com and look around. There you will find lots of moderately priced trunk mount bikeracks that can be repositioned to fit on the rear hatch, but these only carry up to 3 bikes. In addition, on both sites you can find bike racks for carrying 4 bikes in the range of $100 on up to over $300 that would fit on a vehicle that was equipped with a trailer hitch that has the square receiver. I would think that the type of tow bar which bolts onto the vanagon towing hooks in the rear could be modified to have a receiver and thus be used for this type of rack. Four bikes should weigh less than 120 pounds, so I think this would be a reasonable weight for the hooks and the bar to carry. This might be worth looking into, since it would be cheaper than a 4 bike roof rack setup.
