I used to be a member of AAA but stopped after I started to read some of
the material that they send to members describing how hard they are
working for my (motorists) rights. Things like opposing gas tax
increases, opposing use of gas taxes (and other auto related taxes and
fees) for uses such as alternative/public transport.  They truly do
represent the interests of "motorists", those however are not allways my
interests and so I decided not to support them and risk the
inconveniance and cost of being stranded (it has not happened yet...). I
only bring this up because in my experience a lot of people do not
realise this about AAA.  At one time there was a "greener" alternative
to AAA, maybe a list member has some info. Or I could be wrong about AAA
but it seemed pretty convincing at the time about 10 years ago.
