There was a program on tv about a year ago that went into a lot of that stuff. The vast majority was bunk. However the big auto makers did buy up some stuff. None of it was commercially reproducible but the big auto makers did utilize the knowledge gained from those ideas to create their own final products that went into testing before it hit the streets. There is a lot of difference between something that needs to be individually tuned and something that can make it down a commercial assembly line.

The biggest thing they brought out in the program was that almost every mileage claim was not reproducible.

I liked some of the stuff they showed on the program. Water injection (or how to destroy an engine) was very interesting and had about a dozen variations. Increasing compression had a better and safer effect.

Some of our newer engines are actually based on ideas from that era. The technology is now cheaper and easier to install now and doesnΉt destroy the engine before its time.
