Robyn, Don't forget the valuable resources found at www.vanagon.com > Articles & Essays > Refrigerator Info.

Using the several articles found there, I was able to get my stubborn fridge working quite dependably, without removing it from the van or disassembling it. Especially helpful was the technique involving a shop vac and an old nylon stocking to remove accumulated rust flakes and dead bugs from the intake/exhaust flues.

Try some of those tricks before yanking the whole unit.
