hey Tom - I have the Yakima gutter clamp racks on my 84, and theyre okay, but definitely not great. The clamp/tower assembly suggested by Yakima for the V-Gon winds up putting your cross bar really high above the vehicle roof, which ends up looking a little goofy, or you choose the tower the next size down and the cross bar sits just barely above the roof making cargo box mounting and tie down awkward. Also, it took me several tries to "tune" the clamp mechanism well enough to establish a good non-wobbly clamp. Could be a user issue rather than product engineering but IMHO their clamping system could be improved.

Maybe Yakima has updated/improved these parts since i bought mine back in 2002 (including finding the happy medium between too tall and too short), but I would suggest looking into Thule racks as an alternative to Yakima.
