Hmmm. Great places.

Hot Springs, Arkansas. Not your typical tourist trap (at least not
typical of 80's and onward tourist traps).

Monument Valley, Utah/Arizona. The place a lot of westerns were made.
Not a lot of people (at least in the Utah section...Arizona section has
various roadside stands in the indian reservation).

Dolly Sods Wilderness, Monogahela National Forest, WV. A piece of
Canada dropped into the Mid-Atlantic.

Olympic National Forest/Park, Washington State. Crescent lake is
fantastic. Some really nice camping spots in the National Forest.

US Route 50. One of the US roads that goes (nearly) coast to coast.
Ocean City Maryland to Sacramento California. Non-interstate (which
means you see the towns and people and everything is not the same as it
is on the interstates.) It's a way to cross Kansas and not be bored.
'Nuff said.

Pacific Coast Highway, California. From the South to the North, this is
a road that has vistas that are worth the investment in time.

Interstates I-68 (Maryland/West Virginia) I-79 (West Virginia).
Interstates that aren't flat, straight and boring. Oops. Sorry, if you
are in a stock Vanagon, these are ones to avoid.
