The hidden agenda is simple. If you're going to restore one down in the dumps Vanagon / Westy you often need two as donors for those high priced transmissions, engines, brake rotors and some of the NLA sheet metal and nick knacks like brake adjusters, sliding door locks and Munchkin Ice Trays. Before I buy a used Van, Vanagon, Westy I go out and locate some donors at wrecking yards or keep an eye out for possible meat to strip out and crush so I don't suffer the high UPS rate getting high priced parts delivered to my door. I see that Larry Chase and Joy Hecht could booth have used a donor to tweak their vans before starting the road trips to discover the best repair shops on the North American Continent. But even having a running Vanagon as a donor won't help if you don't twist those wrenches yourself or at least try.
