From a mishap with my westy I always have my underside shield on now. It hit some scrap metal on the road that destroyed two tires and when it hit up on the underside of the van it just missed severing coolant lines by fractions of an inch and fuel lines by about the same as well as too close to some wiring harnesses. The grooves cut into the metal underneath testified to the force that scrap metal ricocheting around had. The cover is back on and staying on. I did make one small change though with a hole that allows me to change the fuel filter without dropping everything.
