Hi Jim,

Between the flanges? Not sure why they would be there. Depending on the bolt length and if you got a replacement converter with the oblong holes, you should only need to use (maybe) a washer under the bolt head and a lock-washer under the nut. Trying to be perfect, I usually install one flat washer under the bolt head, and then one flat washer, one lock-washer (split style) under the nut. Sometimes the arrangement only allows for the lock-washer and nut.

Heads are done, engine starts, ready to put the exhaust back together on my 2.1.

At the big flange between the cat and the manifold pipe, there is a iron ring gasket, and three bolts go through the mating flanges. When I removed the bolts, there were a number of washers and spacers between the flanges that look like they were there for a purpose.

Should they go back in the way they came out, throw them in the trash, secret procedure???
