here's a data point for you. i have a 67 chevy truck which hasn't made it to "EOL" just yet. when there's some part i can't get i just figure out how to use something from a later model.

sorta like the folks who do subaru conversions. they replace the engine with a later model subaru engine so that part of the vanagon is newer. i really don't think there is a point where you can't keep a car usable so long as you don't insist on keeping it original.
