Jere, What brings you to the conclusion that the type of gas has anyting to do with the pitting of the heads? Or are you referring to the top of the cylinder, rather than the head surface? Attached are some things from the archives on the head job. I would assume there is some content related to reassembly, but haven't read this stuff in a few years. Most significant is a guide to the head job posted to the list by Herb Harrison in 1996 which is an step by step expansion of the task as described in the Bentley manual. It is a 10 page Word document. Other suggestions on the overall job and repairs of the heads are included in the zip file. The archives are a wonderful resource. Hope this helps. Sam
