I'm rebuilding my 1988 2.1, and I'm at the point of installing new rod bearings (with freshly reconditioned conn rods). I've checked the crank, and it's perfect. I installed new bearings, and checked with "plastic gauge" and clearances are right at 0.0015" at 33 ft x lbs torque. Then I read the manual a little closer and the Bentley indicates from 1986 on, torque 22 ft x lbs plus 1/2 turn. Here's my question. I can't see how I can get it. It seems really tight ... like I'm going to crank the handle off the torque wrench. Can anyone give me some advice on torquing these rods? Thanks, Ken |
