I have a few questions for those of you who have installing an Audi inline 5 in their Vanagon using South African parts. My observations is that some people get these to fit under the engine cover, without making modifications to that cover. However, the rear deck of South African "Vanagon" is higher than a North American one. So how is this accomplished? Is the engine lowered slightly by shimming the carrier down? If so, by how much? Does anyone know exactly what angle the I5 is mounted at the back of the Vanagon? Is the flat portion of the oil pan truly horizontal to the ground (left to right, not front to rear) ? Does the transmission sit at any different angle as compared to the original wasserboxer? Thank in advance to all that can help me out.
