Jim, I am pretty sure that you will find the metal floors to be
virtually identical, whether 82,83,87,90......
The 90 carpet, if it is a model with rubber front "carpet", may have no
padding under it. The 83 has a thick foam pad under the carpet. This
makes the shape of the floors look different but they are the same
underneath. All Vanagons have the step in the metal floor edge at the
back of the front seats. Models with BA6 or other factory auxiliary
heater options use that metal step area to mount a rear vent for the
under floor gasoline/diesel heater when so equipped. The black plastic
duct that we have been discussing lays on top of that section of the
floor. When the 82/83 diesel black plastic duct is removed, the standard
floor is underneath, carpets and everything, at least on the ones I have
removed.
