We made it fit under the deck lid. We lowered the engine carrier about an inch (if I remember correctly). We also wound up grinding a little bit of the throttle linkage to keep it from hitting the engine cover and we had to cut away some of the insulation from the bottom of the cover. I was surprised that it fit. This was on an 85 Vanagon with manual trans.
