Shawn,

The apparatus in question is a metal-and-plastic "raised floor" that
carries air from the front ducts to the rear passenger cabin. There is
a row of small ducts facing rearward flush with the back of the seat
pedestals, between them. I will send a picture to anyone who wants one.

Apparently, you can remove this ductwork easily and then use the later
model (gas-engined) heater cover for the front ducts. Without the
heater cover in place, I don't believe there is continuity from the
front ducts to the floor ducts anyway, It's a great idea, I just have
to weigh the lack of heat to the rear cabin with the improved
appearance of having an unchipped front cover.
