Karl and the list. Volkswagen hasn't given a letter of conformity to me for about the last three years. They have told me to go pound sand and they will in no way support a "commercial, cross boarder transaction" like this. Volkswagen of America is treats all their "customers" like crap, you know this. I don't know of anyone who has been able to obtain one unless they are moving from Canada to the USA.

So Karl, please feel free to name me. I really don't see why you are currently so pissed at me. I will repeat the question you asked me; "So, I'm wondering if you can help me 'obtain' a copy of the 'certificate of conformity' since you have sold many Vanagons in the US." Somehow you are thinking that I have some way of pulling a rabbit out of my ass and can somehow get you a letter of conformity by doing that!? What makes you think that I have or the other "Great Almighty Importer" has any contact with VW that can produce such a thing for you? I sorry Karl, but the sad truth is you have just as much pull as I do with VW, which is quite honestly is none. The only letters I can get from VW is letters that show the exact manufacture date of a vehicle, nothing about EPA or DOT regs as they just won't give that stuff out. I haven't refused to offer you any help - quite the contrary, I offered you all the help that I could give, which is unfortunately none.

My suggestion to you is to contact a Registered Importer (which is how I got my last few Transporters to the USA) or perhaps talk really nice with Volkswagen and see if they can give you the letter.

The guys at the border don't need an invoice from VW for the speedo swap. I have given an invoice from Fast Forward Automotive with the original KM reading and the new Miles reading on it and it is good as gold.

I am still inviting you here for a cup of coffee when you come to BC to pick up the van. While you are here, I am more than willing give you, for free, an official Fast Forward Automotive invoice showing that we swapped the speedometer.

To anyone who has imported a van in the past six months or so: I need to know if the Federales need any paperwork other than the Certificate of Conformity, bill of sale, and ownership documents. I've been told that 'some changes have been made' since 9-11 [oh good grief!!!] and that additional paperwork may be needed, in addition supposedly only a registered VW dealer can install the speedo? Now that must take Special Tools and Special Training! Last one I did myself and no questions were asked. The Great Almighty Importers Two, who shall remain nameless, have refused to offer any help in any way in regards to this, so I am turning to the general collective wisdom of these Vanagon groups for help. Thanks in advance!

Karl
