Subject: automobile shipping horror stories?
Comments: cc: vanagon@yahoogroups.com

has anyone here who had a vanagon (or other vehicle) shipped cross country had any horrible experiences? i have talked to a few listers..and they have experienced situations where the transport company took months to pick the vehicle up, to situations where the vehicle was abandoned during transit, to situations where the vehicle suffered bad damage.. has anyone else had a shipping horror story when they were dealing with auto transport companies? which companies to avoid?

from what im gleaning, everyone seems to be getting around $1k to ship coast to coast. these shipping outfits contract out with independant truckers with their own rigs..and they tell me the rates are high because of the bad weather..and they can't find truckers who want to drive in the northern states this time of year..and they cannot give a definative answer when the vehicle will be picked up..and what bothers me the most is wondering how many times my vehicle is going to have to be loaded/unloaded (ie, damaged) to shuffle other cars around, before it reached its destination.. has anyone else been thru this mess?

thanks..

chris
