I have put in bigger alternators on other vehicles and the gas milage
difference came in with the size of the engine and weight class of vehicle.
Performance wise I never saw any differences.  On by subie 2.2 and the heavy
van combo I would probably expect about a .1 mpg difference at 3k rpm and
full draw on the alternator at that rpm.  Less than an airconditioner or a
power steering pump.  Which I run neither.
