One side benefit of using anti-skid (sharp, pea-sized broken stone) for ballast is that whenever you do get stuck, and it will happen, it's right there to throw under the tires. A local contractor supply yard charges about $3/100#. They keep empty 100# flour sacks from a bakery on hand just for that purpose.
